Training

Workshops and Webinars

We offer educational trainings and workshops for all aspects of column equipment (design, calculation, installation, inspection, troubleshooting). Workshops can be held online (webinars), at conference venues, or at your site.

WelChem offers webinars for all TrayHeart users. Each webinar is dedicated to a certain column subject (tray type, downcomer, packings, …). The webinar covers basics (design, variants) as well as practical (inspection, cleaning, fabrication) and hydraulic (modeling, TrayHeart calculation) issues. These webinars are included in the TrayHeart license and all licensees are invited to these webinars.

Training Packages

Columns - Design, Function and some Fundamentals

Content: Fundamentals of mass transfer – Random and structred packings – Tray column designs – Feeders and draw-offs – Installation and tests – Inspection of internals

Target group: Technicians, site managers, coordinators, planners – all those who work with column internals and who want to know which tasks column internals have to fulfill in order to achieve optimum performance.

Scope: Lecture time 8h, event preferably in presence to be able to present samples and offer test for certificate.

Aim: The participants should gain an understanding of the background and design of the various column internals. Decisions in daily work can thus be more well-founded and discussions with colleagues more efficient.

Certificate: Certificate of attendance; grade for participation in multiple-choice test after each chapter

How to Prepare and Perform Column Inspections

Content: Preparation of shutdowns (drawing analysis, spare parts inventory, preparation of previous inspection reports) – Equipment and safety issues when carrying out column inspections – Focus when carrying out different inspections (manhole, dirty, clean, final) – Assessment of findings, definition of actions – Preparation of inspection reports

Target group: Technicians, engineers, site managers, TAR managers – anyone who has to assess the condition of column internals during shutdowns and make decisions when problems arise.

Scope: approx. 5 hours, event preferably in person

Aim: Participants are prepared for inspections and know what to expect and what they need to pay attention to in terms of safety and technical aspects.

Certificate: Participant certificate

Design and Function of Column Internals

Content: There are many different types of trays and internals. These have developed over the decades. Each training is dedicated to one type of design and covers the basics, shows examples from production, trial assemblies and inspection as well deals with the calculation options. Failure mechanisms and troubleshooting are also covered.

Target group: Engineers who want to take an in-depth look at the function of different designs of column trays and internals.

Scope: approx. 2 hours per design, event preferably in presence.
Chapters can be selected from the list below.

Aim: To develop an understanding of the characteristic pros and cons of the various design types and to be able to apply this knowledge to existing columns as well as to the selection of new columns/sections.

Certificate: Participant certificate

Design Types: Sieve trays, bubble-cap trays, valve trays with movable valves, fixed valve trays, tunnel trays, shower decks (incl. baffle trays and shed decks), random packings, structured packings, liquid distributors, chimney trays, intakes (pipes, VIDs, …), downcomers.
